Our first annual Cedars Kindness Day was celebrated on September 5th. When planning this event, inspired by a recent blog post about how acts of kindness benefit both the giver and the recipient, we wondered to what degree residents would participate.
We shouldn’t have been surprised by how thoughtful and willing Cedars residents were in the way they showed up for this special day. A multitude of kind notes and joyful sketches decorated the Kindness Board displayed in our lobby – with words of encouragement like “You CAN do hard things!” and “Be iconic!” as well as thank you notes for staff and a general expression of love for the Cedars community, we couldn’t have asked for more.
We also made Kindness Bingo cards for residents who filled them out by practicing acts of kindness such as holding the door for someone, picking up litter, or phoning a friend or family member. Returned bingo cards were entered into a draw for a cozy autumn-inspired prize to celebrate the start of the season. With the resounding success of the event, we are already looking forward to celebrating Kindness Day again next year!
